Hello out there! I know, I fell off the edge of the earth. But I’ve returned to at least give you some closure on the short film. It’s been a while now. We did complete the film and it made its way to some festivals and even won a few awards, as you can see from our Instagram page. A total of 14 nominations and 19 wins, to be precise! I even got an award for Best Actress, which is always a little ego-boost.
What you’re probably most interested in seeing is the actual film itself, if you haven’t already, so of course I will share that with you here!
Although there are a few things I would have liked to have been done differently, overall I am very proud of the result and very proud of the cast and crew. What started as a fun little concept to be filmed in one indoor location soon spread through the streets of Paris, walking in Audrey’s footsteps by the Seine and taking a peek at the old Théatre Vrai Guignolet, even finally getting to visit le château de la Reine Blanche… It was an amazing four days.
And now it’s been nearly three years! It certainly doesn’t feel like it. What have I been doing since then? Well, my main focus has been trying to move from where I’d been living in the Netherlands. I’m someone who has always preferred living on my own, or in my own space, and honestly I was not doing well in that situation. Every morning I would wake up with the goal of finding a way to leave, hoping to apply for a rental and get a “yes,” or find another visa for another country if there was no room in the Netherlands for me. We searched with an agent for over a year after trying for several months on our own. Then I discovered a self-employment visa for France, and after months of sorting out what I would need to apply, and wasting some time and money on someone who was supposed to help me with the process, I applied and was approved in the summer of 2025. Thus began the move back to France. It took us about four months to secure a rental and now we are sitting in our own home surrounded by boxes of belongings. And you may think I wouldn’t know what to do with myself after a life focused solely on finding a place to live for the past several years, but I’m quite busy and quite happy to have that off my shoulders at last! I have several projects I am working on, including two Audrey-related books. I will share more on that later, but I’d like to keep it under wraps for a little while longer!
As for my dream of playing Audrey in that Wildside production… it is still my dream, it would absolutely make my life and I could happily retire to the countryside having done it… but as the years drag on and my hair turns silver, I do lose hope. I don’t think my time in the Netherlands did any favours for my career…. behalve dat ik een beetje Nederlands heb geleerd. I will probably never completely give up hope for this dream, but I have to create some new dreams as well. Sometimes luck and timing are just not on one’s side. So I will focus on my other projects, other things I am excited about, and work towards the rest of my life goal, which is a beautiful old house in the countryside, near to friends (and possibly family), and doing work that gives me purpose and makes a difference. So now I will get back to working on that, while you enjoy my little film!
